　中学生の頃、よく、この歌を聞いていた。下記リンクのリッキー・ネルソンとか、プレスリーで。

　三つ子の魂なんとやら……僕は中学生の頃から、「バカ」だったんだってな、と今さらながら思う。今もバカだから、損得勘定なしに突っ込んで行く。
　天使が足踏みするところに、僕は突っ込んで行く……。
　死ななきゃ直らないんだな、これは、もう――。  〔思い出した、道新で一緒だった、Ｕさん、僕ののこと、いつもそう言っていたな……〕

　で、中学生の当時は、ブンチャカ・ブンチャカのロック・ビートの曲なんだと思い込んでいたが、最近、ドリス・デーの歌唱を（たしか）ＢＢＣのラジオで聞いて、元々はスローな曲だったんだ、と認識を改めた。

　ドリス・デーさんはカリフォルニアのカーメル（そう、あのクリント・イーストウッドが市長をやった……）で健在だそうだ。動物保護の財団をやっているそうだ。

　そして、中学時代の僕の憧れ、リッキー・ネルソン。
　（リッキー・ネルソンがバンドの仲間と一緒に航空機事故で亡くなった時、僕はほんとにショックだったなあ。あの、ほんとに美人の――金髪の――奥さんと子どもたちのこと、かわいそうでならなかった！　人生の不条理を感じた！）
